FF u-turns on promise of compulsory drink and drug testing at accident scenes

Donegal North East TD, Joe McHugh, has accused Fianna Fail of breaking a solemn promise made during the election campaign to introduce compulsory drink and drug testing for drivers involved in accidents. Deputy McHugh said that Taoiseach Bertie Ahern had made a firm commitment that Fianna Fail would implement these changes without delay if re-elected but Transport Minister Noel Dempsey had rejected Fine Gael legislation to do just that.

And let’s not let the Seanad Voting thing go without mention. The deal with the devil, now the devil wants some payback. And I just learned that it isn’t just a pact, but rather a list of specific candidates so they could end up voting the Healy-Rae’s. They Greens don’t even have the list yet (via Irish Independent)
And as Gene Kerrigan points out, co-location is a PD policy, the PDs were wiped out and the Greens are filling the gap. If the Greens and Finian McGrath had opposed it (as promised), it wouldn’t have gone through unless the Ceann Comhairle intervened. And now FF can hardly put the blame on 2 PDs. It’s their policy now to suit a few rich “friends” I bet.
